چکیده

We introduce the concept of a moving \vortical projectile" (VP) to synthesize a new understanding of vortex dynamics in the vicinity of interacting nearby layers or structures of opposite-signed vorticity. In particular those layers deposited at contact surfaces when a shock or blast wave interacts with a spherical or elliptical bubble, heavier than ambient. This concept is generic to complex shapes in two and three dimensions. We conjecture that recent observations of \explosion fragments" in the vicinity of supernova remnants(SNR) could be VPs.

Simulation of Bubble and Particle Interactions with Vortical Flows Using a Discrete Element Model

Discrete Element Model (DEM) is used to simulate bubble and particle interactions with vortical flows. In this Euler-Lagrange approach, volume-averaged Navier-Stokes equations are solved using a co-located grid finite volume method. The dispersed phase is assumed spherical and is modeled by tracking the centroids of the particles/bubbles in a Lagrangian frame. In addition to interphase momentum...

Study of Parameters Affecting Separation Bubble Size in High Speed Flows using k-ω Turbulence Model

Shock waves generated at different parts of vehicle interact with the boundary layer over the surface at high Mach flows. The adverse pressure gradient across strong shock wave causes the flow to separate and peak loads are generated at separation and reattachment points. The size of separation bubble in the shock boundary layer interaction flows depends on various parameters. Reynolds-averaged...

Shock wave-bubble interaction near soft and rigid boundaries during lithotripsy: numerical analysis by the improved ghost fluid method.

In the case of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL), a shock wave-bubble interaction inevitably occurs near the focusing point of stones, resulting in stone fragmentation and subsequent tissue damage. Because shock wave-bubble interactions are high-speed phenomena occurring in tissue consisting of various media with different acoustic impedance values, numerical analysis is an effective...

Effect of Cavitation on Vortex Dynamics in a Submerged Laminar Jet

The effects of cavitation on vortex dynamics in a submerged, two-dimensional, planar laminar forced jet were studied numerically. A locally homogeneous cavitation model that accounts for nonlinear bubble dynamics and bubble/bubble interactions within spherical bubble clusters was employed. The effects of varying key ow and cavitation model parameters on ow/cavitation interactions were inves...

Analytic Solution for Hypersonic Flow Past a Slender Elliptic Cone Using Second-Order Perturbation Approximations

An approximate analytical solution is obtained for hypersonic flow past a slender elliptic cone using second-order perturbation techniques in spherical coordinate systems. The analysis is based on perturbations of hypersonic flow past a circular cone aligned with the free stream, the perturbations stemming from the small cross-section eccentricity. By means of hypersonic approximations for the ...
